It is the first and only licensed Collective Waste Management System for portable batteries and accumulators in Cyprus. The System was licensed for the first time on 1<sup>st<\/sup> April 2009 and is subject to renewal of its license every six years, subject to approval by the Competent Authority of Cyprus, which is the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment.<\/p><p>Shareholders and Members of the System are battery companies (importers), which are obligated by law to manage in an environmentally sound manner the batteries they sell on the Cyprus market when they reach the end of their life and become waste.
