Quantitative Targets

Based on the current legislation, the recovery and management of at least:

25% by average weight of portable batteries and accumulators placed on the market by September 2012.

45% by average weight of Portable Batteries and Accumulators placed on the market by September 2016.

A new European Directive is expected to come into force in 2025, which will increase the minimum recycling rate.

Recycling processes must achieve the following recycling efficiencies:

  • Recycling of 65% by average weight of portable batteries and lead-acid batteries, including recycling of lead content to the highest degree that is technically feasible without excessive costs.
  • Recycling of 75% by average weight portable batteries and nickel-cadmium batteries, including recycling of the cadmium content to the highest extent technically feasible without excessive costs.
  • Recycling of 50% by average weight of other waste Portable Batteries and Accumulators.
