A groundbreaking environmental initiative that brought together students, parents, educators and volunteers from across Larnaca culminated on Sunday, 7 June 2026, with an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest line of AA batteries.
Zouchouri Square was transformed into a hub of collective action and environmental awareness, as more than 2,500 kilograms of batteries were collected for recycling and an impressive line consisting of 33,566 batteries was created.

The initiative, organised by the Federation of Parents’ Associations of Primary Education in Larnaca, delivered a strong message of collaboration, volunteerism and environmental responsibility.
With a total of 33,566 AA batteries placed in a single continuous line and more than 2,500 kilograms of batteries collected for recycling, the initiative successfully combined education, community engagement and environmental protection.
AFIS Cyprus was proudly present with its information booth, offering interactive games for children, giveaway gifts and educational material on battery recycling, as well as information on the environmental risks associated with the improper disposal of batteries.

The success of this initiative represents not only a significant international achievement but also compelling evidence that when children, educators, parents and volunteers work together towards a common goal, they can accomplish results that exceed all expectations.

Warm congratulations to everyone who contributed to the success of this remarkable effort, and especially to the students, who sent a powerful message about the importance of recycling, collaboration and active participation in society.
